The University understands that sometimes students need to take time away from their studies.
If you are a new student, who has not commenced study, in most cases you may defer your place before you start your studies. Please email study@usq.edu.au to request a deferral.
If you are a current domestic student and wish to take a break from your studies for a semester, you must submit a Leave of Absence request on or before the census date of the relevant semester.
Please note: Leave of Absences are only required for Semester study periods in the 2023 academic year. Any student whose program runs on a different academic calendar (e.g Blocks or Trimesters) is not required to submit a Leave of Absence during the 2023 academic year.
To submit your request:
- Login to UConnect
- Student Centre
- Online Requests
- Add new request
- Leave of Absence
You will receive confirmation that your Leave of Absence request has been processed for your chosen study period. Your program will remain active and you can enrol in courses for the following study period.
Leave of absence periods are counted as part of the maximum period allowed for completion of your program. The maximum time allowed for UniSQ programs is listed in the UniSQ Handbook. You can locate your program via the search bar, then select Required Time Limits from the lefthand menu.
Research Students should submit a Leave Request via the 'Research' tile in your Student Centre under the Candidature menu. Further instructions are available via the HDR webpage or for a step by step guide on how to submit a Leave of Absence please view the Leave of Absence Guide.
If you are an International student on a student visa, you will be subject to student visa conditions. If you need to apply for a Leave of Absence in ANY study period in 2023 please view our How do International students take a leave of absence? FAQ for details.
