What is a Primary Major?
Updated

Also known as a Specialisation, a Major is an area of specialised study that is a requirement in your program's structure.

Your Primary or single Major, or Specialisation, will appear on your testamur, unless the academic program’s accreditation requires no Major or Specialisation be printed on the testamur.

For example:

If you are studying a Bachelor of Business and have selected 'Marketing' and 'Biology' as your majors, your Primary Major will be ‘Marketing’ as it is offered in the Bachelor of Business  degree. Alternatively, if you are studying two majors that are offered in the Bachelor of Business degree, such as 'Marketing' and 'Human Resource Management', you will need to choose which major you would like to select as your Primary Major.

Your Official Academic Transcript and Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) provide a record of your courses and grades, and state both Majors, provided the academic program's accreditation stipulates this.

To select your Primary Major:

  1. Log in to UConnect
  2. Student Centre
  3. Program tile
  4. Check the Primary Major information - Click on Select Primary Major
  5. View the options displayed - Click on your choice of a single Primary Major
  6. Ensure your Primary Major selection is now visible
